Viva Fall River

Flavorful Foodies

Everyone knows road trips need snacks, but what happens when it’s mealtime?

What are you in the mood to eat? Fall River offers a variety of cuisine for everyone, especially those not afraid to try new dishes. But even if you’re vegan, vegetarian, or just a picky eater, there are still delightful dishes to please your palette.

Since the city’s Portuguese community equates food with love, meals are meticulously prepared to perfection.

For authentic Portuguese fare, Sagres offers a refined culinary experience.

This restaurant is a family-owned business with a contemporary dining room and classic Portuguese eats. For the daring foodie, you gotta try the grilled octopus!

For a more sophisticated experience (no need to dress up, though) we suggest these restaurants:

Tabacaria Acoreana (TA Restaurant)
Caldeiras
Terra Nostra

In addition to mouth-watering Portuguese meals, these eateries serve more traditional dishes as well. You’ll also delight in robust wine lists.

QUICK BITES!

Another local favorite is Patti’s Pierogis, located in the city’s South End. Here the staff will happily run down the Polish pierogi options, including dessert varieties.  Dine-in or Take-out is available.

SEAFOOD &
AMERICAN FARE

Do you crave fresh seafood dishes, savory steak plates, or traditional burgers?

We suggest the Tipsy Seagull, which makes its home atop a floating dock at the city’s waterfront.

A short walk away is its cousin, the Tipsy Toboggan which is housed in a cozy brick building with live entertainment on weekend nights.

They are both great places to watch the sunset over the river!

(Since these two are popular local hot spots, though, we suggest you call ahead for table availability.)

WANT SOME MEXICAN FOOD? OR AN AMERICAN CLASSIC?

In the mood for Mexican? Stop at Taqueria El Habanero for tacos, chicken fajitas, or burritos.

Craving simplicity?
Roger’s Coney Island Hot Dogs or Faneek’s Coney Island, are two excellent quick-eat choices depending on your location in the city. Take out or dine in.

FALL RIVER CHOW MEIN!
(ONLY GET THIS IN FALL RIVER)

For the final Fall River culinary experience, no one can leave the city without first checking out Mee Sum restaurant. While it may sound like your typical Chinese fare, it’s definitely not.

We recommend you order the unique-to-Fall River Chow Mein Sandwich. You can’t get this meal anywhere else in the country, since this delectable delight was invented in the city!

Perhaps an hour stay.

CHEERS TO YOU!

For beer lovers, the city has two breweries that ferment their own flavored concoctions:

Canned Heat and Troy City Brewing are where you can kick back and enjoy a variety of racks. If you’re running out of time, take a 6-pack or two to go. The beer here will not disappoint!

DID YOU KNOW?

Because Fall River is rich in European culture, wine is a staple with meals here. Some residents even ferment their own red grapes grown in their backyards!
