“Roadfood”<\/a>\u00a0host Misha Collins said he was stunned\u00a0by the beauty of New Bedford<\/a>\u00a0while filming an episode in the Whaling City in October.<\/p>\n

“There’s so many fishing vessels in here. Each one of them is painted with an eye of an artist… they’re actually beautiful,” Collins said in a promo video.<\/p>\n

During the filming, while walking along the harbor, a fisherman named “Bob” invited Collins and his crew onto his boat to take a tour of the harbor.<\/p>\n

“So, as far as we know right now, we’re being abducted,” the “Supernatural”\u00a0actor-turned “Roadfood” host\u00a0jokingly said.<\/p>\n

“There is such a long and storied history here. You can kind of feel it. It’s palpable. It’s not a graveyard, but these are monuments to another time.”<\/p>\n

“Roadfood”\u00a0follows Collins as he travels the country and learns about the different areas through its food. Two episodes were shot\u00a0in\u00a0New England.<\/p>\n

When is the Roadfood New Bedford episode airing<\/h4>\n

The “Rhode Island” episode of Roadfood is available to stream\u00a0now on GBH<\/a>, PBS Passport, Amazon, or AppleTV. The “New Bedford” episode, which also includes Fall River, is premiering on Feb. 19.<\/p>\n

What restaurants did Roadfood visit in New Bedford<\/h4>\n

In New Bedford, after Collins’\u00a0boat ride in the harbor, he met\u00a0up with\u00a0Cassie Canastra, the\u00a0director of operations for\u00a0BASE, Inc<\/a>., and is\u00a0on the\u00a0groundfish and scallop advisory panels for the New England Fisheries Management Council.<\/p>\n

Canastra gave\u00a0Collins a tour of her family-run business\u00a0before they both headed into downtown New Bedford to visit\u00a0Tia Maria’s European Cafe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“When they initially had called me, I thought they wanted\u00a0to just use our space to conduct an interview,” said Tia Maria’s owner Jessica Arruda.\u00a0“I didn’t realize that we would be featured on the show. It was a pleasant surprise.”<\/p>\n

She said they were in the middle of a “lunch rush” when the camera crew of 10 people, including Collins, arrived. Collins filmed the segment at an\u00a0outside table in the parklet.<\/p>\n

“We chatted a lot. We introduced them to some of our customer favorites,” Arruda said of items\u00a0such as the Queijo S\u00e3o Jorge sandwich and Gal\u00e3o, a steamed milk with an espresso shot.<\/p>\n

Roadfoods\u00a0features Portuguese food<\/h4>\n

“We tried to serve him all Portuguese stuff,” she added.<\/p>\n

Arruda\u00a0said they spoke in great length about\u00a0the whaling and textile industry and how influential the Portuguese people are to the success of the city.<\/p>\n

Collins also visited the\u00a0Whaling Museum<\/a>, fisheries and other local places. “It was nice to have New Bedford featured in such a positive light,” Arruda\u00a0added.<\/p>\n

Collins is best known for his role as\u00a0Castiel in the TV series “Supernatural.” He’s also known for playing\u00a0Officer Franklin in “TSA America” and for his appearances in\u00a0Fox’s “24.” Presently, Collins voices the role of\u00a0folklore professor Jeremy Bradshaw in the podcast,\u00a0“Bridgewater.”<\/a><\/p>\n
