Fabric Festa with Pedro Mafama, dj sets by Raina del Mar & Where’s Nasty

In the spirit of the great Portuguese festas, FABRIC brings you our own interpretation. The P.A.L. in Fall River will come alive for one night to celebrate the best way we know how: with community, music, food and tasty drinks! Join us as we welcome Portugal's Pedro Mafama. Born in Lisbon, Mafama has become a central figure in the contemporary Portuguese aesthetic of 'Novos Fados:' a genre of pop music that emphasizes Portuguese dance, marches and rumbas. To open the evening we will have Portugal's Reina del Mar play a dj set and the evening will close out with an after party from Providence's own, Where's Nasty! Food trucks will be situated outside of P.A.L. where guests are welcome to enjoy food and bring it inside. BĀS cocktails will be taking over the bar with Portuguese and Cape Verdean inspired libations. Fabric Arts Festival is a celebration of art, music, community, and the city of Fall River, Massachusetts. It aims to be a platform for artistic creation through a multidisciplinary program that seeks to create a cultural and communal experience.  Portuguese festas (festivals) are vibrant celebrations that bring together communities around shared rituals and traditions involving food, music, and all sorts of devotions. They are simultaneously communal, cultural, religious, and profane. There are “Festas” all over the world, each reflecting the unique culture, traditions, and heritage of their respective regions. Fabric is hosting its own festa, expanding to multiple communities, and transforming the P.A.L. into a collective kitchen and food court with a dance floor in its center. Pedro Mafama would steer the party with his pimba (pop) hits, which reinterpret Portuguese aesthetics while, at the same time, paying attention to and acknowledging African and Islamic influences. Portuguese artist Reina Del Mar will open the dancefloor and the party will continue with Cape Verdean-American creative director & DJ from Providence, Where's Nasty. Trustees Mobile Adventures

The Mobile Adventures van will be parked outside the library today, and kids and families are invited to explore, build, and play! Mobile Adventures is a custom van filled with outdoor nature play experiences for the whole family, bringing pop-up style experiences designed to spark exploration, play, discovery, and curiosity with nature. Mobile Adventures is staffed by outdoor educators and outfitted with materials for coastal explorations, forest or geology investigations, fort-building, logs for balancing and climbing, along with hands-on, interactive creative play activities like fairy house building and creating art from natural objects. The program is informal, so families can drop in any time between 11 and 1 and stay as long as they like!

Her sound simply never stands still, she’s pushing limits, bending genres, and reinventing her music and herself with each new record. “It’s really hard to believe that twenty years ago, I gave up a career in graphic design, formed the Ana Popovic band, and decided to be a full-time musician. Soon after, I traveled to Memphis to record HUSH!, my first solo release,” says the hard-touring guitar slinger speaking from her home in Los Angeles. “I had big dreams back then and I still dream big today.”
