Matt will describe the destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, how the cities were rediscovered almost 1500 years later, and the risks still facing metropolitan Naples today. Matt Davis is a retired Professor of Psychology who conducted the first research studies of how residents living in beneath Italy’s Mt. Vesuvius view their risk from a future eruption. He’s been an invited speaker at dozens of international conferences and was a featured expert in the 2006 Discovery Channel documentary: Could It Happen Here? He's the author of At Home in the World: Reflections of a Travel Addict, a memoir about his international travels, and is a regular guest on WJAR TV's Studio 10 program in Providence.
