She regularly plays theaters across the country, hosts a weekly comedy podcast, Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone, and is a regular panelist on NPR’s Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me. Paula has starred in several HBO specials, including Cats, Cops and Stuff, which nabbed a cable ACE award for Best Comedy Special. She was the first female comic to host the White House Correspondents Dinner. She filed live coverage of the 1992 Democratic and Republican National Conventions and the Presidential Inaugural for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and at the 93rd Emmy Awards. Paula has starred in two television series, both entitled The Paula Poundstone Show. Write with Community is designed to encourage writers to expand their geographic circle of community while building diverse creative networks. Writing workshops help creative voices speak. Meeting in person to do meaningful work offers the chance to share, grow, and feel energized. In this three-part series, we will promote strong bonds for the attendees, facilitating the connections, networks, and safe spaces that help writers to thrive. By merging writing with outreach, we can create geographic and social connections between communities. There is documented evidence that writing in community strengthens the social fabric. Topics this year are Writing from Place (Fall River), Writing from the Outside In, and Write Now!

Thursday, October 24, 2024 $63 Advance | $68 Day of Show Doors 7pm | Show 8pm The incredible harmonies and distinctive arrangements of The Jayhawks set them apart from the rest of the Minneapolis music scene that emerged in the 1980s. Over the course of almost 4 decades, 11 albums, countless memorable live shows and enough personal drama to fill a couple of Behind the Music episodes, this beloved band soared to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics, fans and peers in the process. After releasing 2 Indie albums in the 80s, The Jayhawks had become a driving force and inspiration behind the growing Americana movement in the early 1990s. Combining the talents of singer-songwriters Gary Louris and Mark Olson, The Jayhawks released their major label debut, the acclaimed Hollywood Town Hall (1992) on the Def American label. This was followed by Tomorrow the Green Grass (1995), which produced the alternative radio hit single “Blue.” The Jayhawks have made music in 4 different decades and are as vital now as they were in 1985. They definitely have earned their reputation as a true American treasure.

Join us for these fantastic children’s events here at SoCo Art Labs, hosted by artist and author, Susan Drayton. This event, funded by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council and the Mass Cultural Council is free for children. Each month's activity will be different but will all strive to strengthen children's motor and problem solving skills through planning and making their very own artwork, while also focusing on literacy and creativity. Formed and led by drummer Tom Major in 1993 while on hiatus from touring with Rock legend Bo Diddley, Entrain has been blessed with a list of top tier musicians over the years. Among them and often joining Tom is lead singer/guitar wiz Brian Alex. Joining them is bassist M'Talewa, saxophonist/keys/percussionist Rob Loyot, saxophonist/percussionist Hilary Noble and Trombone/keys Lennie Peterson Veterans all, their collective resume includes stints with such diverse players as Bo Diddley, Carly Simon, Chuck Berry, Southside Johnny, James Mongomery, Gary Burton, and Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Our upcoming event- The Pajama Project will be held on November 7th from 5:00-7:30pm at The Narrows Center for the Arts. Entry is one (or more) pair of pajamas, or a gift card. The Pajama Project is aimed at providing new pajamas to tots, tweens, teens, and entire families in need. We believe every person deserves a good night’s sleep in cozy pajamas, and with your support, we can make this a reality for many in our surrounding communities.
