Manhattan Short Film Festival at Bristol Community College

Be part of the over 100,000 people, across six continents, who view and vote on Best Film and Best Actor awards for ten short films, that are 20 minutes or less, in this year’s 2024 Manhattan Short Film Festival. Bristol Community College’s Campus in Fall River is your local venue for attending this special once-a-year event! A screening will be held on Thursday, September 26, at the Bristol Fall River Campus, 777 Elsbree St, from 6 to 9 p.m. , with proceeds benefitting the Attleboro Campus Fund and Bristol Theatre program. Friday, September 27, 2024 $53 Advance | $55 Day of Show Doors 7pm | Show 8pm Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke was born in Athens, Georgia, but left town after a year and a half. Raised in 12 different states, he absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child, flirting with both violin and trombone, before abandoning Stravinsky for the guitar at age 11. After adding a love for the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt to the music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps, Kottke joined the Navy underage, to be underwater, and eventually lost some hearing shooting at lightbulbs in the Atlantic while serving on the USS Halfbeak, a diesel submarine. Kottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations; a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; and a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College.

Calling all mushroom enthusiasts! Join us for a Mushroom Walk with mycologist Aaron Keaton. After a rainy summer season, wild mushrooms are thriving along the trails of Copicut Woods! This walk is ideal for beginners, but experienced foragers are also welcome! About Aaron: Aaron Keaton, a Keene State College graduate, developed a deep appreciation for the natural world, especially mushrooms, during his explorations in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire. He is an avid hiker, who can often be found on trails photographing each and every mushroom he comes across. Currently based out of his hometown of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Aaron works to document and conserve fungi, as well as teach others. He shares his experience and knowledge with the community through presentations, walks, and workshops across New England. His work emphasizes the intricate relationship between fungi and ecosystem health, while also exploring the profound impact fungi have on humanity, through topics such as food, medicine, and culture. Join us for these fantastic children’s events here at SoCo Art Labs, hosted by artist and author, Susan Drayton. This event, funded by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council and the Mass Cultural Council is free for children. Each month's activity will be different but will all strive to strengthen children's motor and problem solving skills through planning and making their very own artwork, while also focusing on literacy and creativity. Best known for her stop-you-in-your-tracks voice, Liz Longley is an accomplished singer-songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. With her deeply emotional music, Longley has earned accolades from some of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the country, including the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition.
