Opening and Artist’s Talk, The Genius of Lewis Wickes Hine – Photography Reimagined by Sheila Oliveira

Fall River Heritage State Park Fall River, Massachusetts, United States

Celebrate the opening of local artist Sheila Oliveira's new exhibit at Fall River Heritage State Park! Join us at 1:00 PM on August 11th for an artist's talk introducing the exhibition, which will be displayed in the Community Gallery at the Visitor's Center in the Thomas Hudner Memorial Building through October 14th. Using oil paints over printed canvas, Sheila Oliveira adds new depths and dimensions to Lewis Wickes Hine's powerful black-and-white photographs documenting child labor in Fall River in the 1910s. This exhibition emphasizes the vulnerability and humanity of the children who worked in the textile mills as well as the role of Hine's photographs themselves in the national fight to end the exploitation of child workers.
